Vladimir Voevodin

Vladimir Voevodin (May 25, 1962 – April 29, 2026) is the ideologist and co-founder of the “Supercomputing Frontiers and Innovations Journal”. He is widely known as a distinguished scientist, science organizer, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Research Computing Center at Moscow State University and the Sarov branch of Moscow State University, Head of the Department of Supercomputers and Quantum Informatics at the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics at Moscow State University, and Chairman and organizer of the International Scientific Conference "Russian Supercomputer Days".

Vladimir Voevodin was one of the leading driver of the supercomputer industry in Russia. Under his leadership, the most high-performance systems of the time, such as Chebyshev, Lomonosov, and Lomonosov-2, were built. He was a founding member of the Supercomputer Consortium of Russian Universities, which united over 60 organizations. He was the project manager for the "Supercomputer Education" project of the Presidential Commission for Modernization and Technological Development of the Economy, which brought together over 40 leading Russian universities. He was also a member of the BRICS working group on high-performance computing. On his initiative and with his direct participation, numerous studies, including interdisciplinary ones, were conducted on a wide range of topics related to the supercomputer industry, and collaboration with leading global scientists and research teams from all over the world was established and maintained.

He was able to discuss complex technological challenges not only as problems of computing or programming, but also as questions for the future of science. Deeply understanding that high-performance computing is a key tool for modern cognition, the foundation for modeling complex systems, big data analysis, engineering calculations, and economic and social research, he shaped the intellectual and technological environment for the development of these technologies. Vladimir Voevodin organized and chaired the International Scientific Conference "Russian Supercomputer Days" – a key event in this field, attended by representatives of research institutes, universities, government agencies, students, graduate students, engineers, and specialists involved in the development and application of supercomputer technologies.

For him, supercomputers were not a highly specialized tool, but the foundation of a universal infrastructure for solving problems of national development, science, education, and governance.

He trained a galaxy of young scientists and colleagues who continue his ideas and ambitious plans. His name is forever associated with the development of Russian supercomputer technologies, parallel programming, high-performance computing, and computational science in the broadest sense.

Vladimir Voevodin was awarded high state, departmental, and university awards and titles, but most importantly, he earned the deepest respect of the entire scientific community. The principles of his work and life will serve as a model for future generations.
